Paul Smith was introduced to Miss Anna Balcells, the founder and president of the Kalipay Negrense Foundation, by a classmate from his Harvard OPM programme. In July, Paul visited the foundation’s orphanage in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, Philippines, and was deeply moved by the organisation’s mission to help disadvantaged children—those who are homeless, abused, malnourished, or out of school.
The orphanage, under Anna’s leadership, cares for around 80 children but has the capacity to support up to 200. However, the organisation faces significant challenges, including staff shortages and a constant need for funding. Despite these hurdles, Anna and her team remain dedicated to providing education, shelter, healthcare, and counselling to the children in their care.
After seeing the foundation’s work firsthand, Paul decided to contribute $50,000 AUD to support its mission. He believes this donation will help Anna continue her vital work, offering hope and a brighter future to these vulnerable children.
