Save on packaging – grow your own!

Following on from our most recent article about tips to save on produce packaging, I thought it would be topical to pull out one of the tips and give our readers advice on how to get started growing your own vegetable and herbs.

Spring is coming and September is a great time to get lots of things started in your garden. Some that are perfect to plant in the garden in September include:

  • Asparagus.
  • Basil (Start undercover in seed trays and plant out in 4-6 weeks).
  • Carrots.
  • Coriander.
  • Lettuce.
  • Mint (Start undercover in seed trays and plant out in 4-6 weeks).
  • Potatoes.
  • Rocket.
  • Tomatoes (Start undercover in seed trays and plant out in 4-6 weeks).

By getting these planted now will mean you will have many of the ingredients for your summer salads! And think of how much packaging you’ll save not having to buy these from the shops.
