Recycling Week 2018 will be upon us before we know it! Now is the time to start planning your activities for the week 12 – 18 November. This year’s theme, From Waste War to Recycling Reboot, aims to resolve confusion surrounding how to recycle right and what happens to our recycling, following a range of materials on their journey through the emerging circular economy.
To give you some inspiration on how you can become involved, Planet Ark have come up some great activities for workplaces, community groups, or at home:
1. Friday File Fling – Friday 16th November
The Friday File Fling, is all about getting rid of those paper files piling up in your office and flinging it into the recycling bin! It’s a fun, easy way to de-clutter and a great chance to give your desk some special attention before the silly season really kicks off.
FYI – you don’t need to hold the Fling on Friday 16th November, it can be any day that suits!

2. Buy it Back Day
The ‘Buy it Back Day’ will be held on Saturday 17th November with the aim of getting consumers to make mindful and sustainable purchases either by purchasing something second hand or buying a product made from recycled materials. Once the purchase has been made, use social media to become truly involved: Post a photo on with #BuyItBack and #NationalRecyclingWeek explaining why you made the purchase.
If you own or manage a shop that sells products made of recycled materials or second hand products you can become even more involved by hosting an event.

3. The Big Aussie Swap
Planet Ark is inviting councils, community groups and workplaces to participate in the Big Aussie Swap by hosting a public ‘Swap Party’. A Swap Party is an event where participants bring good quality items they no longer want and exchange them for other items. Participants exchange their items for tokens and once all the items are displayed, participants browse and swap the tokens for items brought by other people.
With the help of this handy guide produced by Planet Ark it’s easy to get organised for your Swap Party. And to find out more or to register your event click here.
