TODAY app – review

Back in September we introduced the ‘TODAY’ app and are pleased to announce that it is now available to download on the App Store. Here’s a bit about what you can expect. . .

TODAY app review

How does it work?

The very first time you open up the app you’ll be prompted to login with Facebook (from what I could tell there wasn’t another way around it but not sure if that’s an issue as most people seem to be connected with Facebook these days).

After opening the App, you’ll see your dashboard which would be empty until you start taking and completing challenges.

From here if you go up to the menu and select ‘find a challenge’, you can then check out the various challenge sections:

  • Food & Drink.
  • Home.
  • Lifestyle.
  • Shopping.
  • Transport.
  • Technology.
  • Work.

Under each section you’ll find a number of easy daily challenges you can take which can all help in making a positive environmental impact – scroll down in each challenge to read about the environmental benefits. At the bottom you’ll also see participants of the challenge so if you get your friends onboard you can see what they have been up to as well.

There are some obvious challenges listed like going plastic free or not using disposable coffee cups but if you delve deeper you’ll also find some really interesting ones like ‘no butter’ or ‘no chocolate’ (download the app to find out how this could help the environment!). For self-confessed chocoholics this might not be the challenge for them, but there are plenty of others to choose from!

If you see a challenge you like the look of just click ‘Let’s Do This!’ and you then have the option to select if you want to do it for ‘Today only’ or ‘Everyday’. You then have the option to invite friends to participate in the challenge too.

If you then go back to your dashboard you’ll see you have an active challenge, once you have completed the challenge you simply ‘Update Your Progress’ and you’ll then see what the results are and you can choose to repeat your challenge should you wish.

The verdict

The Today app is visually great, nicely set out and very easy to use. I think the idea is really good, it’s all about changing habits and the challenges are pretty easy so why not give it a go!? If you get onboard and try out just a couple of challenges to start with, chances are your mindset may change and these choices may become second nature. One aspect I think could see improvement is giving more options for timeframes, it would be good to have the option to choose perhaps ‘a week’ or a ‘month’ rather than just ‘a day’ or ‘every day’.
